Locomotion No1The North East was a pioneering area for the development of the railways, from the first passenger railway between Darlington and Stockton to the integration of the local networks for haulage of stone, coal from the dales quarries and mines.  This range of tours, created by a blue badge guide provide a fascinating insight into the relics of the railway industry, opportunities to experience a heritage railway journey, get up close to a range of engines at the National Railway Museum collection in Shildon, or see Locomotion 1, the first passenger steam engine, at the Darlington Railway Centre.


Dales on Rail - Take this route to combine visits to Locomtion, Cockfield Fell and The Weardale Railway.  You will also see the Stanhope and Tyne Railway and the Waskerley Way

Railways Great and Small - Start with morning coffee near Bowes and explore railways in and around Barnard Castle and finish the day at Locomotion

Scenery and Steam - Combine sightseeing and fine food with a spot of history and a ride on a steam train.  This route takes in Teesdale and Weardale.

Trains and Castles - Start by riding the Wensleydale railway then tour Castle Bolton, Richmond Castle, Barnard Castle, ending at Darlingon Railway Centre and Musuem.
